MarketWarrior and Windows 7

The instructions below show how to use MarketWarrior and the eSignal data feed with Windows 7. There is a security feature in Windows 7 named "User Account Control" (UAC). The UAC feature will prevent MarketWarrior from connecting to eSignal unless the correct permission level is set in Windows 7. The steps below show how to set the permission level in Windows 7.

Part 1: Look up Your Windows 7 User Name
To follow all the steps below you will need to know your Windows 7 user name. To see this value select the Windows 7 menu Start->Computer. This will open the viewing tool to see your computer. At the top, on the left, under the item "Desktop" there will be a folder that is named with your user name. On my computer the user name is simply the letter "p". You can see this below. Write down your Windows 7 user name because you will need to know this later.

Part 2: Check Your Windows 7 UAC Status

Next we will look at your current UAC settings. Click the Windows 7 "Start" button. In the bottom edit box type "MSCONFIG". You will see a single item is found. This is the program MSCONFIF. Click on this item to start this program.

This will open the "System Configuration" dialog box. Select the tab "Tools". On the Tools tab select the item "Change UAC Settings". Then click Launch.

Next the dialog box below will appear. This shows the User Account Control Settings. On my computer I am using the "Default" setting for UAC. Set your UAC where you want and click OK. If any exit message boxes popup click YES or OK as you back out.

Part 3: Set the Permission Level for the eSignal program


Next we will set the permission level for eSignal. To do this you need to locate the eSignal program on your computer. This program is named WinSig.exe and is usually located in the folder C:\Program Files\eSignal\WinSig.exe. The first picture below shows this file.

When you find the eSignal program you need to select this file and do a right mouse click to open the Context menu. This is shown on the picture below. On this menu select the item "Properties".

On the Properties dialog box select the tab "Security". Click the button "Advanced".

On the Advanced dialog box seen below select the tab "Effective Permissions". On this tab click the "Select..." button.

Now you will see the dialog box named "Select User or Group". On this dialog box click the "Advanced..." button.

This opens the dialog box "Select User or Group" seen below. On this dialog box click "Find Now".

When you click "Find Now" the area labeled "Search results" will be filled in. This is where you need to know your Windows 7 user name that we looked up in step 1. Scroll down the list of Search results until you see your Windows 7 user name. On the picture below I have selected my user name "p". After you select your user name click the button OK.

Now we will back out of the dialog boxes seen previously. On the box below you should see your Windows 7 user name. Click OK.

Now you should be back on the tab "Effective Permissions". On this tab all the check boxes should be checked. This most important on is the top check box "Full control". Your Windows 7 user name should also be shown in the edit box. Now click OK.

Now you are back to the original Properties dialog box. Click OK and you are done.

Part 4: Set the Permission Level for the MarketWarrior Program


Next we are going to set the permissions for the MarketWarrior program exactly the same way we did for the eSignal program. The first step is finding the MarketWarrior program named "mw3.exe". This file is usually in the folder C:\Program Files\marketwarrior4\mw3.exe.

When you find the MarketWarrior program you need to select this file and do a right mouse click to open the Context menu. This is shown on the picture below. On this menu select the item "Properties".

On the Properties dialog box select the tab "Security". Click the button "Advanced".

On the Advanced dialog box seen below select the tab "Effective Permissions". On this tab click the "Select..." button.

Now you will see the dialog box named "Select User or Group". On this dialog box click the "Advanced..." button.

This opens the dialog box "Select User or Group" seen below. On this dialog box click "Find Now".

When you click "Find Now" the area labeled "Search results" will be filled in. This is where you need to know your Windows 7 user name that we looked up in step 1. Scroll down the list of Search results until you see your Windows 7 user name. On the picture below I have selected my user name "p". After you select your user name click the button OK.

Now we will back out of the dialog boxes seen previously. On the box below you should see your Windows 7 user name. Click OK.

Now you should be back on the tab "Effective Permissions". On this tab all the check boxes should be checked. This most important on is the top check box "Full control". Your Windows 7 user name should also be shown in the edit box. Now click OK.

Now you are back to the original Properties dialog box. Click OK and you are done.

Part 5: Set MarketWarrior to always Run as Administrator


Now you need to open the Context menu for the MarketWarrior program again. Select the "Properties" menu item.

Select the tab "Compatibility". There is a group box named "Privilege Level". This is group box there is a single check box named "Run this program as an administrator" Check this box and click OK.

Part 6: Start MarketWarrior and connect to eSignal


Now all the Windows 7 permission levels should be correctly set to use MarketWarrior and eSignal. Start MarketWarrior by double clicking the icon on the desktop.

You will see the dialog box below. Click Yes. Always click Yes when you start MarketWarrior and see this dialog box.





When MarketWarrior starts if your default data type is set to eSignal you will see the dialog box below. Click the button "Connect eSignal".

You should now see the green bar that says "Connected to eSignal". This completes our Windows 7 UAC instructions.
